Group Head of Tax
Job Description
Qualifications/Experience
- Degree in Tax Management, Finan or Accounting.
- Leadership or Taxation an advantage.
- Chartered Accountant (CA).
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
- Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).
- At least 10 years of working experience with a combination of professional working experience in a tax environment and
currently holding a senior tax role. - Extensive experience in dealing with tax authorities and regulators on tax audits (field and desk audit)..
- Exposure to international taxation.
JOB PURPOSE
Provide strategic and compliance guidance on the Group’s tax portfolio to optimize tax efficiency, minimize liabilities, strengthen
relationships with tax authorities and uphold the Group’s reputation for compliance and transparency.
KEY RESULT AREAS
- Develop and implement a comprehensive tax strategy aligned with the Group’s overall business objectives.
- Identify opportunities for tax optimisation while ensuring compliance with local and international tax laws.
- Monitor changes in tax regulations and assess their impact on the Group’s operations and strategy.
- Support the Group’s growth initiatives, such as mergers, acquisitions, and new market entries, from a tax perspective.
TAX COMPLIANCE AND REPORTING
- Ensure timely and accurate filing of all tax returns (corporatetax, VAT/GST, withholding tax, etc.).
- Oversee the preparation of tax provisions, disclosures, and reconciliations in accordance with accounting standards
(e.g., IFRS, GAAP). - Coordinate with finance teams to ensure that tax-related items are accurately reflected in financial statements.
RISK MANAGEMENT AND GOVERNANCE
- Identify and manage tax risks, including transfer pricing, cross-border transactions, and tax audits.
- Establish and enforce robust internal controls and governance frameworks for tax-related activities.
- Represent the Group in tax disputes, audits, and litigation, working closely with legal and regulatory teams.
- TRANSFER PRICING
- Develop and maintain transfer pricing policies for intercompany transactions to comply with international
standards (e.g., OECD guidelines. - Ensure proper documentation and reporting of transfer pricing arrangements to avoid regulatory penalties.
STAKEHOLDER COLLABORATION
- Collaborate with business units, treasury, and finance teams to provide tax insights on business decisions.
- Act as the primary liaison with tax authorities, auditors, and external advisors.
- Provide tax advisory services to internal stakeholders, including senior management and the board.
INTERNATIONAL TAX MANAGEMENT
- Manage tax compliance and planning for the Group’s operations across multiple jurisdictions.
- Monitor global tax developments, such as Base Erosion and Profit Shifting (BEPS) initiatives, and ensure compliance.
- Optimize the tax structure for cross-border transactions and international expansions.
TAX TECHNOLOGY AND PROCESS OPTIMISATION
- Leverage tax technology and automation tools to enhance efficiency in tax compliance and reporting.
- Continuously improve tax processes to reduce costs and increase accuracy.
PEOPLE MANAGEMENT AND LEADERSHIP
- Lead and manage a team of tax professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence within the tax function.
- Proactively defines the plans and priorities for the department.
- Identify, develop, and retain future talent to support business growth.
TEAM LEARNING AND NETWORKING
- Regularly attend with team, tax seminars, workshops, and training sessions to stay updated on the latest tax
developments. - Build and maintain relationships with external tax advisors consultants, and tax authorities to stay informed on industry
trends and best practices. - Develop and implement coaching and mentoring programs to foster the growth and development of the tax team.
